The train was clean and the trolley service was most welcome. The hotel was friendly, clean and very comfortable. We loved Edinburgh and our only disappointment is that we didn't stay longer. We will definately visit again and would use Superbreak to book it.

out of 5No time for all the attractions? why not just dip in and out of the shops on the royal mile and take in the sights. Try the elephant house on george iv bridge and sit where jk rowling and iain rankin sat whilst writing their books or enjoy a cracking evening meal in the mariachi mexican restaurant on victoria street. Of course best time to visit is during august when you just fall over entertainment. The public records office is so convenient you'll be reunited with your scottish ancestors in no time.

out of 5We have been to edinburgh before and really enjoyed it but the hotel was tailors hall and wasn't the best, but this hotel was lovely. It wasn't right in the centre about a 20min walk from princess street and about 10 from the high street. Nice area though. Food was nice. Prices weren't bad. Although more expensive than home the prices were the same all over edinburgh. Nice pool/sauna area.

out of 5Very good value with this package. The train trip was comfortable and the hotel was in a good central location. Really liked edinburgh and particularly liked the hotel spa facilities. Overall very happy. We walked around edinburgh (very pedestrian friendly) and the castle and went hiking on our third day - very lucky with the weather. Had tea at a nice tea shop near the parliament building.

out of 5Get a taxi from the station to the novotel as you will encounter a few hills if you try to walk with your cases, the hotel is near the castle and you can take several routes when walking to and from the city shopping area. Pick up local information leaflets as they all have good maps of the city centre. The tourist info is next to waverly train station and offers a selection of good deals and the customer service is good. If you like shopping you will enjoy princess street but use your map and venture around to rose street and george street there is more to see. Also you will find lots of old pubs in fantastic condition with a good selection of beers on offer. Enjoy the sights and the great architecture make sure to visit the castle and take time to see all the different museums inside they are steeped in military history and well looked after. If you like you can choose to eat in the more expensive hotels or restaurants in the city but bear in mind you always pay more when you are in the capital, or try the local pubs, most pubs have the same menu but I was disappointed with what was on offer and portions were small and not served very hot but look around and you will find some where you will enjoy. Also make use of the trains for days out, plan your destinations and pre book your tickets online, looking back Edinburgh is a great short break people were very nice and the train from London was relaxing and stress free and I would visit again.

out of 5The hotel was very clean and the room spacious. Hoewever it lacked intimacy and felt quite clinical. The staff were very polite and nothing ws too much trouble. Breakfast was very good. We ate in the hotel on the 2nd night of our stay. The food was ok but a little over priced and due to the nature of the building and decor again it felt a little clinical. We booked our train and hotel as a package. The only down side to this is that a seat cannot be reserved and so as he train from Newark was very busy we had to stand until we reached darlington. It would be very helpful and would offer piece of mind if a seat could be reserved at the time of booking. As we have paid for rail tavel it does seem a little odd that a seat cannot be reserved. The complete price of the packeage did offer excellent value for money. If the offer is available again, we would book it.
Editor Notes:
Editor's comments: Seats can be reserved at Superbreak at a cost of £5 per person. Alternatively seats can be reserved by taking Superbreak tickets to the station. This is possible with any type of train ticket which Superbreak provides

out of 5Had a short break in a hotel novotel in edinburgh - just a few minutes from the main train station (if you know the way). The hotel was excellent with very friendly staff, clean and comfortable. We didn't actually eat in the hotel (apart from breakfast) although the menu looked very good it was bit expensive for us (we are on a tight budget). Edinburgh itself is a fantastic place to visit and all we met were very friendly and i can't wait to do the trip and possibly stay longer again.

out of 5Great hotel in a good location 10mins from grassmarket and within easy reach of the castle, shops and princess gdns. The German market and ice rink gave it a great christmas atmosphere. Excellent shops and some good pubs especially The Shakespeare near the theatre. Good basic pub grub. If you haven't been to the Royal Yatch then its worth a visit and it's not that expensive to have a tour. There are a good selection of shops at ocean terminal and you can get there very easily on several buses from the city centre or very near the Novotel. It's best to get a day rider for £3 (very good value) the castle is wonderful but unfortunatly it was very foggy when we visited so we missed all the superb views from the castle. Edinburgh is great for a long weekend.

out of 5The hotel was very clean and the staff were very polite. Ideally situated only half a mile from the castle. Numerous different areas of the city offered something for all tastes. Parking was expensive around the city, the hotel car park was small and can only fit around 15 cars into it. You only pay £10 per exit if you can get into the hotel car park, but there are no guarantees. Average price for parking around the city was between £13-£15 per day.

out of 5Fascinating City with marvelous architecture and history. Edinburgh Castle good but expensive, especially when entrance later in the day as some exhibits closing, needs a reduced rate for this. Holyrood Palace excellent, but again needs to have a slightly reduced rate as gardens not open in winter.Excellent place for short break. Make sure that your hotel is central and you can either walk or open top bus everywhere. Hotel. Novotel Edinburgh recommended. Clean, quiet, polite staff and superb breakfast. Left the car in the hotel car park for 30 hrs, only 10GBP!.

out of 5You suggested the Novotel, which was in a good location and looked nice. The room was comfortable and clean. The general facilites were good but the hotel was let down by the lack of sufficient staff and organisation. I wouldnt have said the hotel was particulary busy but the bar, and waiting staff were all overworked and consequently ineficient. We had to wait in line for nearly 20 minutes while they filled the breakfast buffet after running out of food. Not what you expect on your Wedding Anniversary treat weekend away. On complaining to the reception of the dealy etc they accepted our complaint very graciously and said we had been one of many that morning to complain and as compensation offered two x 1.50GBP vouchers (adding insult to injury) toward local attractions for our inconvenience (which we could not use). We decided not to allow this to spoil our much looked forward to break but can not really recomend the hotel. Although the Superbreak process of arranging the holiday was very good and went smoothly.

out of 5We booked into the hotel, the only disappointment was the distance from the car park to the hotel. We then went to the local bars at Grassmarket which were fun, lively and inviting. We headed back to the hotel and had room service snack which was excellent. On Saturday we headed off to the castle which was busy but very interesting. Following that we went to the Dungeons which was done for a bit of fun. It certainly was great fun and enjoyed by both of us. We had lunch at a cafe then wandered around the shops, heading back to the hotel for a rest. We then headed off to the bars again and decided to order room service for supper. On Sunday we visited the Scottish Art Gallery briefly before having a light lunch and heading off home.
